Join the Ocean to City Race as a volunteer and get a look at what happens behind the scenes of Cork’s largest annual maritime celebration!
This year’s race takes place on Saturday 4th of June and the Organisers are looking for volunteers to help on land, on the water, in Cork City or along Cork Harbour.
Ocean to City – An Rás Mór is Ireland’s largest rowing and paddling race, attracting hundreds of participants from at home and abroad. The event embraces everything from traditional wooden working boats, currachs, skiffs, gigs and longboats to contemporary ocean racing shells, kayaks, canoes and even stand-up paddle boards.
Over 300 volunteers are needed to deliver what is Cork Harbour’s largest annual event in a variety of roles, and with just 10 days to go until race day Organisers are keen to spread the word. Volunteers can be part of the buzz at the finish line in Cork City as a Steward, or they can join the Shore-Safety Teams along Cork Harbour. People are also needed to help 100 tired paddlers by giving them a hand lifting their kayaks out of the water at the finish line, and to assist with Finish Line setup as part of the event’s Production Team.
The Ocean to City race and Cork Harbour Festival, 3-13 June, are also looking for a small team of volunteer Market Researchers, who will visit events during festival week, survey visitors and of course enjoy the events themselves. Any photography passionados are asked to volunteer as a Festival Photographer and help in covering the Festival.
Ocean to City Director and Meitheal Mara Board Member, Donagh MacArtain said: ‘’We are very lucky to have a group of highly skilled and dedicated Team Leaders who assume responsibility for each of the key areas in the Ocean to City race. They ensure that the event is safe and enjoyable for participants and spectators like. All in all, over 300 volunteers are needed and we encourage folk to sign up and help us provide a warm ‘pure Cork’ welcome to our national and international participants.
Anyone free to volunteer with Ocean to City on 4 June or during Cork Harbour Festival, 3-13 June, please go to: oceantocity.com/volunteering.
