Work by Sinéad Barrett in collaboration with Spike Island Punishment Block
Spike Island Echoes of Isolation is an exhibition developed from research undertaken on Spike Island’s 19th- century prison, where almost 1,200 convicts died. One hundred and forty years later, this exhibition shines a light on those forgotten voices, exploring the emotional and psychological impact of isolation, both in the context of historical punishment and in the modern world. Today, the effect of isolation has become all too relevant, particularly in the aftermath of the pandemic and how it disrupted lives and our sense of connection to others. Family-friendly.
Entry: The exhibition is included in the Spike Island tour | Check website for boat availability and pre-booking. Website: spikeislandcork.ie
